Metabolic bone disease is a disease caused by abnormal changes in bone mass and bone metabolism in the skeleton due to various causes. Bone is mainly composed of organic and inorganic components; the organic components are collagen and non-collagen, and the inorganic components are mainly calcium, magnesium, zinc and selenium. The cells that promote bone synthesis are called osteoblasts, and the cells that destroy the bone away are called osteoclasts. Metabolic bone disease can occur due to abnormal changes in the function of osteoblasts or osteoclasts in bones or abnormal changes in the composition of collagen and hydroxyapatite caused by congenital and hereditary diseases, poor lifestyle, other diseases or drugs.
