Basal body temperature testing methods and significance

1, get a thermometer, master the meter reading method, to ensure accuracy. It is recommended to use a special basic thermometer, which is different from the general thermometer, it has a higher accuracy. Currently commonly used female basic thermometer generally does not use mercury-containing thermometer, most of the use of safer electronic thermometer, the use of measurement accuracy of ± 0.05 ℃, resolution of 0.01 electronic thermometer, accurate electronic thermometer by the LCD screen directly display the measurement results, at a glance digital reflect the measured temperature, more sensitive and clear, no need to bother to observe the mercury thermometer on the subtle scale, also protects the accuracy of the measurement results. It also guarantees the accuracy of the measurement results.
2.Every night before going to bed, the mercury column of the thermometer will be dumped to below 35 degrees, if it is an electronic thermometer will become the initial value, placed in a place within reach after waking up.
3, every morning after waking up, immediately put the thermometer in the empty sac under the tongue for 5 minutes and then take out the reading and record it on a special form. It can also be measured in the armpit, but generally the armpit temperature is not as close to the oral temperature of the human body is also not stable enough.
  4. It is strictly forbidden to get up, urinate or defecate, eat or talk before taking temperature measurement. (It is possible to get up at night)
5, should record the presence of many factors that affect the basal body temperature, such as: colds, insomnia, alcohol, medication, emotions, etc.. In case of cold, fever, diarrhea, insomnia, alcohol, use of electric blankets, excessive alcohol consumption, late to bed and late to rise, etc., often easy to affect the accuracy of the basal body temperature, after the measurement need to pay attention to the same time to be specially marked instructions.
6.The day of menstruation and intercourse must be marked with additional marks.
7.Record the measurement results on the basal body temperature chart, in addition to recording on paper, it is best to record in the special basal body temperature management tool, which can be more convenient and intuitive to view the basal body temperature curve, and to see at a glance the low and high temperature periods.
Determining pregnancy by basal body temperature
The basal body temperature usually rises with ovulation and fluctuates below 36.6 degrees during the first half of the menstrual cycle. After ovulation, the body temperature moves to the second half of the menstrual cycle and rises compared to the first half, fluctuating between 36.6 degrees and 37 degrees, with a rise in temperature indicating ovulation. If you are pregnant, your basal body temperature will not drop, but will continue to be high. The high temperature is due to the increased amount of hormones secreted by the ovaries after pregnancy. However, women with poor ovarian function or fevers caused by colds can affect the basal body temperature curve, so it is not 100% accurate.
The function of basal body temperature
1, to determine whether ovulation to guide contraception
Generally, the basal body temperature is 36.5℃ during the follicular phase and rises by more than 0.5℃ during the luteal phase, thus appearing biphasic, indicating ovulation, if the monophasic type has no late rise in the temperature curve, suggesting no ovulation, with an accuracy rate of 70%~80%.
If the temperature increases by 0.3 to 0.6°C or even more within 24 hours, then it indicates ovulation.
In addition, the basal body temperature is also a good indicator of the quality of the ovum. If the basal body temperature is high for a long period of time, lasting 13 to 14 days, then the quality of the eggs is good.
2, Diagnosis of early pregnancy and determination of early pregnancy risk
If the high basal body temperature lasts for more than two weeks, you should consider going to the hospital for a check-up because you may be pregnant. If ≥20 days can be determined as early pregnancy. A gradual decrease of BBT curve in early pregnancy indicates luteal insufficiency or placental malfunction and a tendency to miscarriage.
  3.Observation of luteal function
BBT should rise immediately after ovulation and continue at a high level for ≥11 days. If BBT rises in a stepped pattern, the curve takes 3 days to reach a high level or BBT rises steadily for <11 days, it can be diagnosed as luteal phase defeot (LPD).
  4. Suggest other lesions
BBT does not decrease during menstruation, there may be endometriosis or early subclinical miscarriage, and endometriosis lesions bleed and then produce absorption fever. In primary amenorrhea patients with biphasic BBT, uterine amenorrhea should be considered, such as congenital absence of the uterus or endometrial destruction by tuberculosis of the reproductive tract.
  5. Projection of appropriate endometrial biopsy time
In patients with irregular cycles, to understand whether there is a secretory response of the endometrium and the function of the corpus luteum, endometrial biopsy should be performed 2 to 3 days before the estimated next menstrual flow after the rise of BBT.
