Role of vaginal interferon

The main effects of interferons are antiviral, antitumor and immunomodulatory functions. Vaginal interferons are also interferon preparations that are used topically in the vagina, such as recombinant human interferon a-2b gel and recombinant human interferon a-2b suppositories. These interferon preparations, when placed topically in the vagina, are also capable of exerting antiviral and immunomodulatory efficacy and antitumor efficacy, and can be used to treat inflammatory cervical and intravaginal disorders caused by infections with papillomaviruses and genital herpesviruses, such as cervicitis and condyloma acuminatum. Moreover, it is also useful in the prevention and treatment of precancerous cervical lesions caused by human papillomavirus infection. During the intravaginal use of these drugs, care should be taken to prohibit sexual intercourse.
