What’s wrong with the side of your tongue?

The pain on the side of the tongue should be considered whether it is caused by oral ulcers, damage to the tongue mucosa or glossopharyngeal neuralgia.
1. Mouth ulcers: due to autoimmune reaction leading to tissue damage on the side of the tongue, often manifested as round ulcers. The treatment can be anti-inflammatory with gentamycin gargle or oral ulcer powder to relieve pain and promote ulcer healing.
2. 3. Hypoglossal neuralgia: it may be due to the demyelination of the nerve, causing pain in the distribution area of the hypoglossal nerve, including the lateral side of the tongue. Treatment may include carbamazepine for anti-neuralgia or cutting off the hypoglossal nerve root on the diseased side.
