Is it dangerous not to have a bowel movement for a week?

Not having a bowel movement for a week is not too dangerous if it is caused by constipation. If it is due to pathological factors such as intestinal obstruction, it needs to be treated promptly. If a patient has constipation in the past and has not had a bowel movement for a week without excessive discomfort, he or she should drink more water, exercise more, and eat more coarse cellulose food to promote intestinal peristalsis, and use medication or laxative treatment under the guidance of a gastroenterologist. However, if the patient usually has normal bowel movements and exhaustion and suddenly does not have a bowel movement for a week, accompanied by abdominal pain, abdominal distension, nausea, vomiting, fever and other symptoms, there may be acute intestinal obstruction, and should be promptly admitted to the hospital for examination and treatment. The normal frequency of bowel movement is between 1-2 times a day and once every 2 days. Some people do not meet this standard but maintain a stable state, so there is no need to worry too much. When there is a sudden change in bowel habits or frequency, or if you have not had a bowel movement for more than a week, it is recommended that you go to a gastroenterology clinic for an examination to clarify the cause.
