How long does it take to recover from varicose vein surgery?

The recovery time after varicose vein surgery varies according to the degree of the disease and the surgical procedure, which requires specific analysis. If the varicose veins are mild, they can generally be treated with local foam sclerotherapy injections or minimally invasive techniques, such as laser closure and radiofrequency ablation, which allow a small amount of walking on the day after surgery and recovery in about 1 week. If the condition is relatively serious, such as varicose veins in the lower extremities, with obvious pain and swelling in the lower extremities, the effect of sclerotherapy or minimally invasive treatment may not be obvious, and traditional high ligation and stripping is needed, which can usually be recovered about 1 month after surgery. In some special cases, such as patients with serious venous ulcers, the recovery time after surgery depends on the healing of the ulcer wound; CHIVA surgery, i.e., ultrasound-located blood flow diversion surgery, is a minimally invasive procedure because it preserves the saphenous vein and only targets small incisions in the diseased vascular valves, resulting in fast recovery. Patients need to pay attention to recuperation after surgery, strengthen their own nutrition and functional exercise, and avoid getting water on the surgical site for a short time after surgery to avoid inducing infection and affecting recovery.
