Insufficient middle qi is a term used in Chinese medicine, which means insufficient spleen and stomach, because middle qi is the qi of the spleen and stomach, the foundation of the latter. A person with deficiency of middle qi has no strength in speech and will show signs of weakness of the spleen and stomach, which are commonly seen in a pale complexion, lighter mouth and lips, loss of appetite, a very easily distended stomach after eating, and dizziness, a lower voice, shortness of breath, palpitations, weakness around the body, and a stomach that sometimes hurts but likes to be pressed, which can make the pain significantly relieved. For deficiencies in the middle energy, one can often apply herbal remedies to adjust them, the more common ones being Si Wu Tang and Si Jun Zi Tang, which regulate the spleen and stomach. It can also be adjusted through exercise as well as a healthy diet that can be adjusted.
