What does leukocyte lipase +++ mean?

Three plus signs for leukocyte lipase often indicate a more pronounced inflammatory response in the specimen obtained. Leukocyte lipase is a very specific enzyme that is found only in human neutrophils, and leukocyte esterase is not present in any other cells. When there are three plus signs of leukocyte esterase, it means that the specimen obtained contains a high number of neutrophils, and because neutrophils are the most important inflammatory cells in the body, three plus signs of leukocyte esterase indicate a more pronounced local inflammation, including infection, sterile inflammation, etc. Three plus signs of leukocyte esterase may occur. The finding of three plus leukocyte lipase in stool examination indicates the occurrence of more obvious inflammation in the intestinal tract, such as acute enteritis, acute gastritis, etc., all of which may show three plus leukocyte esterase, and the patient is often accompanied by a series of symptoms such as abdominal pain, diarrhea, and vomiting. Therefore, three plus signs of leukocyte esterase would indicate that significant local inflammation has occurred.
