The difference between large and small doses of Codonopsis pilosula lies in the severity of the disease and the dosage form of the medicine, etc. Patients are advised to follow the doctor’s instructions to standardize the use of medicine. Radix Codonopsis pilosulae has the effect of tonifying the spleen and lungs (tonifying the spleen and lungs), generating fluids and nourishing blood (replenishing the body’s water and blood). It is used in treating deficiency of spleen and lung qi, poor appetite and tiredness, cough and shortness of breath, deficiency of qi and blood, yellowish color (yellowish color without luster), palpitation (rapid heartbeat often accompanied by panic), shortness of breath, thirst due to injury of fluids, and thirst due to internal heat (internal heat accompanied by symptoms such as excessive food and drink and urination). The internal dose of Codonopsis pilosula is 9~30 grams, usually the large dose is used for the more serious condition and the small dose is used for the less serious condition; while the dose of decoction for internal use is larger, and the dose of pills and powder is smaller than that of decoction for internal use. It should not be used for those with solid or hot symptoms without deficiency of positive qi, and should not be used together with veratrum.
