Normal values for neonatal jaundice

The normal value of neonatal jaundice is directly related to the gestational age of the newborn, the age of the day, and the presence of high-risk factors. The high limit of jaundice varies from case to case, and the difference is very great, so it is necessary to analyze the specific problems.
1. Full-term babies. Jaundice appears 2-3 days after birth and reaches a peak in 5-6 days, with a peak of no more than 12.9mg/dl. Jaundice subsides completely in the first two weeks of life.
2. Preterm infants. Jaundice appears 3~5 days after birth, peaks at 5~7 days, with the peak not exceeding 15mg/dl. Jaundice subsides three to four weeks after birth.
3. Monitoring of jaundice values. Whether it is preterm or full-term babies, if the rise of jaundice per day >5mg/dl, belongs to the pathologic jaundice, should be timely treatment.
The normal value of neonatal jaundice is also affected by other factors, and there are many criteria for judgment, so it is important to monitor the jaundice after the birth of the newborn, and take corresponding treatment according to the neonatologist’s opinion.
