Can elderly men over 90 years old have a prostatectomy?

Our society is moving into an aging society at a rapid pace, and the group of elderly men suffering from prostate enlargement is expanding rapidly. The pain caused by prostate enlargement to older men has a serious impact on their quality of life. We know that at first some elderly people can get good control with oral medication, but there are some elderly people whose symptoms gradually stop working with the passage of time. In addition, some elderly people have serious problems, such as recurrent urinary symptoms, recurrent urinary tract infections, bladder stones, and fluid in both kidneys. These conditions indicate that the hyperplasia is a serious problem and requires further surgical intervention. Some elderly people are over 90 years old, and their children and even the elderly themselves wonder if a 90 year old can actually tolerate prostatectomy surgery. I would like to talk about how prostatectomy is currently done. The actual fact is that you can find a lot of people who are not able to take care of their own personal belongings. However, thanks to the rapid development of modern technology, some new, less-invasive surgical techniques have been created for us to reform. At present, open surgery to remove the prostate has been largely abandoned and replaced by high-tech, minimally invasive surgery. Minimally invasive surgery is mainly through the endoscopic system, through the urethra placed prostate removal equipment to remove the prostate, avoiding open surgery. The biggest drawback is that the electrodes are made with a hypotonic liquid called mannitol, which can be easily poisoned by water if the operation takes a long time. This is a good way to get the most out of a large volume of prostate removal, which often requires a highly qualified physician to operate. The most important thing is that it is a very good way to avoid water poisoning. This procedure has the tendency to gradually replace the ordinary prostate electrodes. The actual fact is that you can find a lot of people who have been in the business for a long time. It has been in use for about 8 years and the results are very positive. We use plasma excision of high age large volume effect is certain. 3. Holmium laser. Our department has introduced 2 sets of the world’s most advanced 100 watt holmium laser. Holmium laser prostate enucleation surgery to remove the prostate gland is complete and the results are very good. Using the above 3 procedures, from January to June 2012, our department completed nearly 20 cases of large volume prostate removal over 200 grams, of which the largest volume was 230 grams and the oldest patient was 95 years old, and the surgical results were very satisfactory. The patients were hospitalized for an average of 7 days and the catheter was removed 3 days after surgery. The average urinary flow rate of patients at 3-9 months of follow-up was 17 ml/s, which was fully achieved. Therefore, according to our experience, minimally invasive prostate surgery in elderly men over 90 years of age is a sure result.
