There is no strict time limit for ultrasound examination of the breast. For routine checkups, the examination can be performed in the middle of two menstrual cycles, i.e., during non-menstrual periods. Some patients with breast enlargement will feel swelling and pain, especially during menstruation. If this is the time chosen for the mammogram, the patient will refuse to press the probe hard because it will increase her pain, but in some cases, the breast gland is very thick and the breast is relatively large, so if the probe is not pressed hard, small nodules in the deeper part of the breast will not be easily detected and will be missed. Mammography should also be avoided if the patient is breastfeeding because the glandular layer of the breast is significantly thickened and the ducts of the breast are in a dilated state during breastfeeding. If there is a cyst in the breast, it may be confused with a ductal milk retention expansion, resulting in a missed diagnosis. Therefore, breast examinations should be done in the middle of the menstrual cycle, during the non-menstrual period, or at any time if the condition requires it.
