There is no artificial way to change the lateral ventricular widening once it has developed, but the incidence of lateral ventricular widening can be prevented by taking folic acid tablets during the first and second trimesters of pregnancy to prevent the development of neural tube abnormalities in the fetus. The normal width of the lateral ventricles is less than 10 mm. If there is excessive widening of the lateral ventricles, the possibility of fetal developmental malformations is considered and the pregnancy needs to be terminated if necessary. Lateral ventricular widening, or excessive accumulation of cerebral fluid in the ventricles due to various causes, leads to dilatation of the ventricular system. The width of the ventricles is measured by ultrasound during pregnancy to assess the possibility of neurological pathology in the fetus. Mild lateral ventricular widening occurs around 28-32 weeks of pregnancy, and the amount of fluid accumulation in the lateral ventricles will be absorbed more quickly. Intensive monitoring during pregnancy is recommended to dynamically observe changes in the width of the lateral ventricles.
