Open umbilical veins can be caused by cirrhosis. The umbilical vein extends outward from the capsule of the left branch of the portal vein and communicates with the umbilical vein along the abdominal wall. Cirrhosis combined with portal hypertension can lead to an open umbilical vein on imaging. If the patient has an open umbilical vein on ultrasonography, it may be due to cirrhosis combined with portal hypertension. Patients with liver cirrhosis may not have obvious clinical manifestations in the early stage, and some symptomatic patients may have symptoms such as fatigue, loss of appetite, diarrhea, abdominal pain, and weight loss, etc., and patients should take timely treatment measures. When the result of ultrasound examination shows that the umbilical vein is open, the patient should seek medical treatment in time and under the guidance of the doctor to prevent aggravation of the condition.
