How to properly use waist brace for low back pain patients

Lumbar girth, also called lumbar belt, is a kind of support commonly used by patients with lumbar pain, especially those with lumbar disc herniation, lumbar spinal stenosis and lumbar spine slippage. Because of the braking, supporting and protecting effects on the lumbar spine, it can achieve the effect of reducing lumbar pain after wearing it. However, many patients are confused as to how to choose a suitable lumbar brace. When is it appropriate to use it? How long should I wear it? What should I pay attention to when wearing a waist brace? A lumbar brace is mainly used to reduce back pain by braking, supporting and protecting the lumbar spine. Therefore, a qualified lumbar girth should have several conditions: reasonable length, good support performance, appropriate elasticity and adapt to the curvature of the lumbar spine. The lumbar girth should cover the position from the top to the rib arch and the bottom to the waist and hip. If the waist circumference is too short, it will not be fixed due to insufficient fixation of the motion segment; moreover, too short waist circumference will be easily shifted upward during the wearing process and lose the fixation effect. But the waist is too long, when wearing also easy to cause discomfort. Good support performance is also the key to the role of waist circumference, because it can reduce the pressure on the lumbar intervertebral discs, thereby reducing pain symptoms. Therefore, when choosing a lumbar girth, you should choose one that has a metal strip on the back for support. In the treatment of lumbar pain, the restoration and maintenance of normal physiological curvature plays an important role. Therefore, when choosing a waist brace with a metal support strip, attention should be paid to selecting a waist brace with a certain physiological protrusion curvature. It is also required that the metal support strips of the lumbar circumference have a certain degree of elasticity, so that the lumbar spine can be fixed while providing a certain degree of adaptability and comfort. After choosing a suitable lumbar girth, it is the question of how to use it. Most patients wear a lumbar brace 24 hours a day because they feel less pain when they wear it, but this is a mistake. In fact, this is a wrong practice. In the treatment of low back pain, the concept of “combination of motion and static” is emphasized, and the lumbar brace can be used for braking, support and protection during activity, while the braking and support of the lumbar brace is not needed when the spine is not under stress in the prone position. On the contrary, this is the time to perform appropriate lumbar back muscle exercise to relax muscle spasm, enhance muscle strength and improve blood circulation. When the symptoms of lumbar pain are relieved, the lumbar girth should be removed promptly. Long-term inappropriate use of waist circumference, so that the lumbar back muscles lose stress stimulation and disuse atrophy, is also not conducive to the long-term health of the lumbar spine. When wearing also pay attention to the waist circumference elasticity. Too loose to lose the fixed role, too tight will bring discomfort. Therefore, patients should wear the lumbar girth according to their own feelings, to wear when they feel that the waist is beneficial and does not affect breathing as degree. Although the waist brace can play a very good auxiliary effect in the treatment of patients with back pain, but also need to select a qualified waist brace and have the correct use method, in order to receive the desired effect.
