For newborns with relatively high TSH levels, parents can use wait-and-see and apply thyroxine as follows: 1. Wait-and-see: some newborns have high TSH values, which are caused by physiological transient stimuli, and after recovery from stress, TSH levels will slowly drop to normal; 2. Apply thyroxine: some are caused by congenital hypothyroidism and should be promptly applied thyroxine replacement therapy. Congenital hypothyroidism can cause newborns to have significantly lower intellectual development and significantly slower metabolism, such as slower heart rate, slower breathing, and mucinous edema. In such cases, only long-term application of thyroxine replacement therapy can ensure normal brain development, as well as normal metabolism, which otherwise can have serious consequences.
