People with meningitis can usually survive for a long time with prompt treatment. There are two more common types of meningitis, viral meningitis, which usually recovers with treatment and rarely affects life. Bacterial meningitis may be caused by gram-negative bacilli or pneumococcus, and is more harmful.
1. Viral meningitis: viral meningitis is usually not life-threatening after choosing antiviral treatment. If it is caused by herpes zoster virus, ganciclovir and acyclovir can be used.
2. Bacterial meningitis: bacterial meningitis is relatively complicated, if it is pneumococcus, you can choose ceftriaxone combined with vancomycin. If it is gram-negative bacillus, ceftriaxone and ceftazidime can be used. If left untreated, it can lead to complications that can be life-threatening.
Timely treatment of meningitis usually does not affect life expectancy, but meningitis can have complications, so once you are sick, you need to go to a regular hospital in time for treatment.
