How to treat a fractured wrist bone

Wrist fractures occur in patients due to direct or indirect external forces on the wrist. When a wrist fracture occurs, proper treatment is required to prevent delayed healing or osteochondrosis. The fracture can be repositioned by manipulation under anesthesia and then immobilized with a brace or cast to limit the movement of the wrist joint to prevent secondary displacement of the fracture site. If the fracture site is significantly dislocated, most patients require surgical intervention. An incision can be performed under brachial plexus anesthesia, followed by internal fixation. After surgery, oral bone grafting medication should be taken and early functional exercises of the wrist joint should be performed to prevent joint ankylosis.
