What are the common causes of back pain

Current international epidemiological research data on low back pain indicates that almost everyone has to suffer from low back pain sooner or later in their lives. Surveys show that 79% to 80% of the entire population has experienced low back pain, and up to 50% of adults in their working years experience some degree of low back pain each year, with 15% to 20% of them needing to seek medical attention. Low back pain has been ranked among the top 10 reasons for medical visits, is the third most common chronic disease after respiratory disease and coronary heart disease, and is the most common cause of disability in people under 45 years of age. Based on the impact of low back pain on human health, society and economy, the medical community has made low back pain one of the key research topics. I am often asked by patients in the clinic, “Doctor, what’s wrong with my low back pain? What’s causing it?” Many patients say to me, “I don’t do anything every day, why do I have low back pain?” Through repeated questioning of medical history, we found that most patients with low back pain have one thing in common, that is, they all have occupational causes or poor lifestyle habits that lead to lumbar muscle strain. The mechanism of low back pain is due to prolonged poor posture of the lumbar region, fatigue of the lumbar muscles, and degeneration of the small joints and discs of the lumbar spine due to increased load, which eventually leads to pain. What are the risk factors that lead to low back pain? 1, common occupations: teachers, drivers, service workers, office clerks and other people who work in a sedentary or standing position, heavy physical labor is also a dangerous occupation with low back pain. 2, common bad habits: prolonged use of computers, semi-recumbent reading, watching TV, playing with cell phones, etc.. The load on the spine is higher in the sitting position than in the standing position, and increasing the pressure behind the backrest can cause a sharp increase in the internal pressure of the lumbar intervertebral disc. Epidemiological and post-mortem examinations have found that the load in industrial work can cause damage to the spinal structure, and the microfracture and scar formation caused by it may be an important factor in accelerating disc metamorphosis. 3, psychosocial factors. Depression, poor job satisfaction, emotional distress, etc. 4, Previous history of low back pain. Risk factors moderately associated with the occurrence of low back pain are: (1) strenuous exercise (2) smoking (3) excessive height (4) poor body mass (5) little exercise and activity (6) obesity, etc.
