Difference between irritable bowel syndrome and gastroesophageal reflux

Gastroesophageal reflux refers to gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD). The difference between irritable bowel syndrome and GERD is in terms of etiology, symptoms, and treatment.
1. Etiology: The etiology of irritable bowel syndrome is not clear, and may be related to abnormal gastrointestinal dynamics, abnormal visceral perception, psychosomatic, genetic and other factors. Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) is associated with abnormalities in the structure and function of the anti-reflux barrier and reduced barrier function of the esophageal mucosa.
2. Symptoms: The main manifestations of patients with irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) are abdominal pain, abdominal distension, change in bowel habit and character, and some of the patients are prone to other symptoms such as low back pain, headache, fatigue, and excessive sweating. Common symptoms of GERD patients include acid reflux, hoarseness, burning sensation in the stomach, belching, chest pain, difficulty in swallowing and so on.
3. Treatment: People with irritable bowel syndrome should pay attention to the rationality of diet and develop good eating habits. When caused by abdominal pain, patients can take scopolamine, mebeverine and other antispasmodic agent to relieve diarrhea, diarrhea is severe when available loperamide and other antidiarrheal, and constipation can be used for lactulose or sorbitol and other laxatives, but also can be used to bifidobacteria, lactobacillus, such as correcting intestinal flora imbalance.
If the diagnosis of GERD is confirmed, acid-suppressing drugs such as omeprazole and lansoprazole, gastrointestinal stimulants such as domperidone and mosapride, and antacids such as sodium bicarbonate and aluminum hydroxide can be used. If the effect of medication is unsatisfactory or the condition is serious, surgical treatment such as laparoscopic fundoplication is feasible, and daily attention should be paid to the rationality of diet and rest.
If discomfort occurs, it is recommended to consult a doctor in a timely manner, under the guidance of the doctor to clarify the cause of the disease and targeted treatment, do not take medication to avoid delaying the condition.
