It is not too late to correct adenoid facies at the age of 8.
The so-called adenoid facies refers to the developmental disorders of the facial bones due to adenoid hypertrophy, elongation of the jawbone, high arch of the palatal bone, irregularities of the teeth, protrusion of the upper incisors, thick lips, lack of expression of the face, which can also become “dementia facies”, and it is difficult to restore the face once the maxillofacial development is complete.
Adenoid face is caused by hypertrophy of adenoids, and it is recommended to surgically remove the adenoids to restore nasal ventilation and drainage if the clinical symptom of prolonged open-mouth breathing occurs.
It is usually of clinical significance to treat this condition before the face is fully developed. Most patients do well with surgical removal of the adenoids supplemented with medication.
If the patient develops malocclusion, consultation with an oral surgeon for orthodontic treatment is required.
Parents should pay attention to changes in the condition of their children and seek timely medical treatment under the guidance of specialized doctors to avoid delays.
