The femoral head is located at the upper end of the femur and is spherical in shape, with the surface completely covered by cartilage. The femoral head is located on the body surface at the midpoint of the groin of the hip joint, which is the middle of the root of the human thigh. The femoral head is connected to the acetabulum through the femoral round ligament, and the blood supply vessels to the femoral head are as follows: the lateral rotor femoral artery, the medial rotor femoral artery, the foramen ovale artery, the superior gluteal artery, the inferior gluteal artery and the iliolumbar artery. The main blood supply vessel of the femoral head is the medial rotor femoral artery, and the medial rotor femoral artery travels on the medial side of the femoral neck, and this artery is easily damaged when the femoral neck is fractured, so ischemic necrosis of the femoral head is likely to occur after a femoral neck fracture.
