The genitofemoral nerve is mainly divided into the genitofemoral branch and the femoral branch, and after the injury, it will have the manifestation of inner thigh sensory disorder, ejaculation pain or disorder.
The genitofemoral nerve originates from the first and second lumbar nerves of the lumbar plexus, passes out from the anterior part of the psoas major muscle, travels below its anterior part, crosses the ureter and then reaches the inguinal area, and is divided into the genitofemoral branch and femoral branch.
The genitofemoral branch enters the inguinal canal and distributes to the levator ani muscle and scrotum in males, or to the labia majora in females. Injury can present with diminished or absent reflexes in the levator muscle, painful or impaired ejaculation, or testicular pain.
The femoral branch passes through the femoral sheath and distributes to the femoral triangle of the inner thigh. Injury can lead to sensory hypersensitivity in the femoral triangle, which can be painful and uncomfortable or numb.
Genitofemoral nerve injury can be seen in trauma, femoral hernia repair and appendectomy, etc. Injuries should be seen promptly, consult with a specialist and follow medical advice.
