Esophageal varices are portal hypertension caused by cirrhosis, formed by obstruction of abdominal vena cava reflux through collateral circulation, which is very dangerous once ruptured and bleeding. For the treatment of esophageal varices, there are currently blocking methods and sparing methods, as follows: 1, the most common blocking is through the esophageal vein trap ligation, the varices will be ligated, the blood vessels will be slowly mechanized, so that the chance of rupture and bleeding is greatly reduced; 2, also through the gastroscopy in the varices into the sclerosing agent, the entire esophageal veins filled with lubricant after the veins have no blood flow and 3, the method of reducing the pressure of portal vein can be done by vascular intervention, by puncturing from jugular vein to hepatic vein and from hepatic vein into portal vein, by bridging between hepatic vein and portal vein and placing vascular stent, which can greatly reduce the pressure of portal vein. After the access is established, the coronary vein of the stomach is found and the vein dedicated to supply the varices of the esophagus is found. By plugging the vessel with a spring coil, the chances of venous bleeding are greatly reduced. This last method, called TIPS, is the best way to treat esophageal varices, and it is more permanent and effective.
