What’s wrong with your legs at night?

Swelling of legs at night may be caused by physiological factors, or it may be caused by pathological factors, such as glomerulonephritis, diabetic nephropathy and so on.

1. Physiological factors: if the patient walks for a long time, or standing, as well as sedentary time is relatively long, it is easy to lead to the blood can not effectively return to the heart, but through the blood vessel wall penetration to the subcutaneous tissue, which will lead to the patient’s legs swollen at night.

2. Pathologic factors:

(1) Glomerulonephritis: after suffering from glomerulonephritis, it will lead to the presence of a large amount of protein in the patient’s urine, which will easily cause the plasma albumin to decrease, and the plasma colloid osmotic pressure in the blood vessels will decrease, so that the water will leak out of the blood vessels, which will lead to the patient’s swollen legs at night.

(2) Diabetic nephropathy: after suffering from diabetic nephropathy, the kidneys will have certain damage, which will lead to the decline of glomerular filtration function, a large amount of protein is excreted, the plasma colloid osmotic pressure decreases, and water is retained in the tissues, resulting in the patient’s legs swelling at night.

In addition to the above, there are other conditions that may lead to swelling of the legs at night, such as varicose veins of the lower extremities, liver insufficiency, cardiac insufficiency, etc. If the symptoms do not improve after improving lifestyle habits, it is recommended to go to the hospital for an examination, and follow the doctor’s instructions for timely and targeted treatment, so as not to delay the course of the disease.
