If the patient has edema in the eyes and face, the following should be considered: first, to consider inflammatory infections, such as cellulitis of the surrounding soft tissues and skin tissues, when these conditions cause redness, swelling, heat, pain, and dysfunction around the eyes due to bacteria, viruses, or other pathogenic microorganisms. Secondly, for non-infectious factors, most commonly due to hypothyroidism or hypoadrenocorticism, the patient will have facial edema, or swelling around the body. Third, for patients with chronic renal insufficiency, there will be a large amount of proteinuria and hypoproteinemia, which will lead to the clinical symptoms of edema in the eyes and face. Fourthly, for the state similar to anemia or malnutrition, the patient will also be malnourished and lead to the clinical manifestations of edema around the eyes.
