Due to liver insufficiency and portal hypertension, patients with cirrhosis suffer from severe maldigestion, malabsorption and even malnutrition, thus they will lose weight and become weak, but not fat.
Cirrhosis can trigger the formation of ascites, when the amount of ascites can cause abdominal bulging, shaped like a frog’s abdomen, but it is not a manifestation of growing fat.
