Can putting in a ureteral stent cause proteinuria?

Generally speaking, placing a ureteral stent will not cause proteinuria.
Ureteral stents are stent tubes that are left in the ureter for support and drainage. When ureteral stents are put in, hematuria, frequent urination, urgency, painful urination, etc., and secondary infections, stent tube displacement, and stone attachment to the surface of the stent tubes may occur; however, proteinuria does not usually occur.
Proteinuria is caused by damage to the glomerular filtration membrane, commonly seen in nephrotic syndrome and glomerulonephritis and other pathologic causes, as well as strenuous exercise (or fatigue), cold, fever and so on lead to patients with physiological proteinuria, which can be disappeared after enough rest and return to normal body temperature.
It is recommended that the patient should consult the doctor in time to find out the cause of proteinuria and follow the doctor’s instructions to standardize the treatment if necessary.
