Symptoms and treatment of bile duct obstruction



The main symptoms of bile duct obstruction are jaundice, abdominal pain, fever, nausea and vomiting. The treatment of bile duct obstruction mainly includes medication, surgery, and puncture and drainage.

1. Symptoms

(1) Jaundice is the most common symptom of bile duct obstruction. It is mainly manifested as gradual lightening of feces color, gradual darkening of urine color and yellowing of skin.

(2) Abdominal pain. It can be manifested as colicky pain, and severe abdominal pain can occur when acute obstructive purulent cholangitis is present.

(3) Fever. Chills and high fever may occur when bile duct obstruction is complicated by infection.

(4) Nausea and vomiting. It is usually characterized by anorexia and greasiness.

2. Treatment

Bile duct obstruction caused by simple inflammation can take drugs such as cefoperazone, metronidazole and other anti-infection. If caused by stones and roundworms, choledochotomy should be performed to remove stones or roundworms, and T-tube drainage should be carried out.

Tumor-induced can be used pancreaticoduodenectomy or choledochotomy and so on. If the patient’s physical condition is poor, intolerant of surgery can be used to drain the gallbladder puncture or endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography biliary stent implantation.
