How to prevent varicose veins in the lower extremities

Varicose veins in the lower extremities are common peripheral vascular diseases manifested by the elongation, dilatation and sinuous flexion of superficial veins in the lower extremities. The varicose veins are like earthworm-like, angrily open, often forming vein clusters in the lower leg, thickening and hardening of the skin in the boot area, dull color, pigmentation, some form eczema, some form ulcers, difficult to heal. This is commonly known as “old rotten leg”, which seriously affects people’s ability to work and quality of life, and if secondary infection develops into sepsis, sometimes it is life-threatening. Varicose veins of lower extremities mostly occur in people who are persistently engaged in standing work and physical labor. The occurrence of varicose veins is related to genetics, prolonged standing, weight bearing, multiple pregnancies and taking estrogenic contraceptives, and local trauma is a trigger or promoter of varicose veins. Congenital weakness of the vein wall and poor venous valve structure are the main causes of the disease. Veins contain many valves that open and close in one direction to facilitate the one-way return of blood flow to the heart. Heavy physical labor, prolonged standing and increased abdominal pressure due to various reasons can subject the valves to excessive venous pressure, which in the case of poor valve structure can lead to incomplete closure of the valves and produce blood regurgitation. Due to the thin muscle layer of the superficial venous wall and the lack of surrounding connective tissue, the regurgitation of blood can cause the veins to grow and thicken, resulting in varicose veins. The occurrence and development of varicose veins are not unrelated to poor lifestyle habits, so paying attention to preventive measures in daily life will slow down the occurrence and development of varicose veins. 1, Do not violently massage or pat the calf veins, which can easily cause the fragile veins to rupture and bleed. 2, never use bloodletting therapy to treat varicose veins. This method is not scientific and leads to shock and anemia in serious cases. 3, maintain the ideal weight. Overweight increases the burden of blood circulation in the whole body and further aggravates the pressure on the vein wall of lower limbs. 4, diet pay attention to eat less high-fat, high-sugar, high-salt food; avoid smoking and alcohol abuse. 5, avoid a posture of long-term standing. Patients who need to stand for a long time and early varicose veins are recommended to wear preventive elastic stockings, and gradient elastic stockings can effectively promote blood flow back into the heart. 6.When standing for a long time, you should often stand on tiptoe, let the heel rise and fall activities, or squat from time to time, which can make the calf muscles contract and avoid blood stagnation in the calf veins. 7, standing workers at rest, it is recommended to lie down and elevate the lower limbs above the heart level for more than 30 cm for 15 minutes to relieve the pressure of blood on the veins of the lower limbs. 8.Pregnancy tends to promote varicose veins, which will be relieved after delivery. However, multiple pregnancies are a risk factor for varicose veins. 9.The need for long hours of sitting or squatting work requires frequent movement of the legs and back of the feet; the need to change positions or move the ankles and toes. 10, maintain the correct sitting posture. Do not cross your legs. Sitting with one leg crossed over the other will slow down the return blood flow in the veins and increase the pressure in the veins of the lower limbs. 11, avoid wearing high heels, flat heels can help prevent varicose veins; when conditions permit, barefoot or wearing slippers, sports exercise to wear sports shoes or travel shoes. 12.Estrogen-containing contraceptives dilate the veins and make the venous valves close tightly and varicose veins occur. Try to avoid taking them. 13, do not wear tight pants. Tight pants restrict waist hip and lower limbs, promote or aggravate varicose veins. Winding elastic bandage in the lower limbs with inappropriate strength can induce or aggravate varicose veins. 14.Before walking long distances with weight, put the legs and feet up and wear suitable elastic stockings or tie the calves with elastic bandages. Tying should be evenly tied from the ankle upwards, and tied slightly tightly as appropriate. 15.Appropriate physical exercise can improve the blood circulation of the whole body but not increase the pressure in the veins. Insist on walking for 15 minutes each time, 4 times a day. 16.The varicose veins of lower limbs can promote blood circulation of lower limbs, eliminate fatigue and help to sleep by soaking feet with hot water before going to bed.
