What’s wrong with swollen ankles and calves?

Swollen ankles and calves are most likely an early symptom of varicose veins. In the early stages of varicose veins there is a feeling of soreness and swelling in the legs, which worsens in the evening and is less severe in the morning, and there is hyperpigmentation of the skin and a change in color. Often there is also ankle edema. If there is an increase in the number of varicose blood vessels, the symptoms of edema in the lower legs can be more pronounced, especially after standing for too long or after exertion. The edema subsides in the morning when you wake up, and in severe cases, eczema or flaky skin may occur. If the problem of varicose veins is ruled out, then we need to know if there is any kidney disease or heart function problem.
