A bulge in the middle of pregnancy is usually caused by fetal movement. The fetus is moving in the uterine cavity and the limbs will touch the abdominal wall resulting in a bulge in appearance. The bulge usually appears around 16 weeks of pregnancy, but it can also occur during pseudocontractions in the middle and end of pregnancy. Pseudocontractions do not require special treatment because they are short-lived and do not affect the fetus or the pregnant woman. During this period, relax, take rest and avoid overexertion. If the contractions are infrequent, they are normal. If the pseudo contractions are more frequent and the number of fetal movements is more obvious, ultrasound examination can be done to determine if the fetus has ischemia and hypoxia.
