Acromegaly, also known as amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, is a chronic progressive neurodegenerative disease involving upper motor neurons (brain, brainstem, spinal cord) and lower motor neurons (cranial nuclei, anterior horn cells of the spinal cord). 1. Signs of upper motor neuron involvement: The main manifestations are increased muscle tone, hyperreflexia, and positive pathologic signs. Superficial reflexes are weakened or absent, and pathological reflexes, ankylosing atrophy, and fascicular tremor are seen, as well as wasting atrophy. 2. Signs of lower motor neuron involvement: muscle tone is reduced, tendon reflexes can be reduced, pathological signs are negative; muscle tone is reduced, tendon reflexes are weakened or disappeared, myasthenia gravis is present at an early stage, and muscle fascicular tremor can be seen with no pathological reflexes. Patients should maintain a good attitude in daily life, actively cooperate with the treatment, and follow the doctor’s instructions for medication.
