Lian Qian Cao and Golden Thread Herb are not the same herb.
Lian Qian Cao is the dried above-ground part of the plant Living Blood Dan of the family Labiatae. It is pungent, slightly bitter and slightly cold in nature. It belongs to the liver, kidney and bladder meridians. It can diuretic and detoxicating, clearing heat and removing toxins, dispersing blood stasis and subduing swelling. It is used for heat drenching (burning and stinging pain is obvious when urinating, accompanied by frequent urination and urgency, and discomfort of traction in the abdomen), stone drenching (discharging sand and stones when urinating, or sudden interruption of urination, pain in the urethra, and intolerable pain in the lumbar and abdominal strangulation), damp-heat jaundice, and bruises, etc. It is also used to relieve stasis and swelling.
Golden thread grass is the whole grass of Polygonum multiflorum or short hair golden thread grass. Taste pungent, bitter, cool, with a small poison. It can cool blood and stop bleeding, clear heat and dampness, disperse blood stasis and relieve pain. It is used for treating coughing blood, vomiting blood, blood in stool, hematochezia, abdominal pain during menstruation, postpartum blood stasis and abdominal pain, bruises, rheumatism and paralysis, stomachache, dysentery, abdominal pain and vomiting and diarrhea.
