Mid-term abortion



Overview

Mid-term abortion refers to induced abortion of a pregnancy that has been terminated artificially between 13 weeks and less than 24 weeks. There are two methods: drug induced abortion and water bag induced abortion. At present, China’s application of levano, water bladder induction of labor is more widely. Liver and kidney insufficiency can be considered to apply the water bag to induce labor, with a history of cesarean section, the application of Levano is safer.

Preoperative preparation

1、Anesthesia

No anesthesia is needed

2. Preoperative preparation

(1) Hospitalization is required.

(2) Detailed medical history.

(3) Detailed general examination.

(4) Ultrasound examination to determine the site of attachment of the placenta and the level of the amniotic fluid.

(5) Prohibit sexual intercourse for 1 week before the operation. Perform vaginal douching 3 days before the operation.

Indications

Those who are 13 to 24 weeks pregnant and require termination of pregnancy or those who are not suitable for continuation of pregnancy due to the combination of certain diseases, and there is no contraindication.

Contraindications

1. Acute stage of systemic diseases.

2. Scarred uterus

3. Acute inflammation of reproductive organs.

4. Poor general condition, unable to tolerate the operation.

5. Suspected rupture of membranes.

Surgical Procedure

(I) Abortion with Levano

There are two methods of drug administration: intra-amniotic injection and extra-amniotic injection into the uterine cavity. The injection dose is 80-100mg, not more than 100mg.

(ii) Mid-pregnancy hydrosalpinx abortion

①Empty the bladder, take the bladder lithotomy position. ② Routine sterilization of vulva and vagina. ③ Dilate the cervix. ③Dilate the cervix. ④Place the water bladder. ⑤ Fill the water bag with water. ⑥ Observe contractions and delivery.

Postoperative complications

Incomplete abortion, uterine rupture, bleeding, infection, amniotic fluid embolism.

Precautions

Pay attention to nutrition, rest and contraception, prohibit sexual intercourse and pelvic bath for one month, and recheck 45 days after operation. After discharge from the hospital, if there is excessive vaginal bleeding or dribbling, abdominal pain, fever and other discomforts, you should go to the hospital at any time.

Postoperative diet

You should pay attention to supplementing nutrition and eat more protein-rich food, such as fish, meat, eggs, bean products and other protein-rich food, which will help the damaged genitals to get well as soon as possible. In addition, you should eat some fresh vegetables and fruits rich in vitamins and drink more water to speed up your recovery.
