If your baby’s eye is poked and there is localized bleeding, in cases like this you should take your child to the hospital ophthalmology department as soon as possible for a relevant examination to clarify the exact injury. Because children are so young, they are not able to describe their feelings as subjectively as adults. If there is serious eye trauma, such as blunt contusion, bleeding inside the eye, or corneal contusion, then it can have a serious impact on the child’s vision development. If the injury is a simple eyelid laceration or conjunctival laceration, it can be treated with suturing. If the injury is internal to the eye, treatment should be tailored to the specific condition. For internal bleeding, conservative treatment is usually required in the early stages, and symptomatic treatment can be given to stop the bleeding and promote the absorption of the accumulated blood in the eye. In case of severe lens trauma, such as traumatic cataract and retinal laceration, early surgical treatment is required.
