Is it okay to take acarbose twice a day?

Acarbose can be taken twice a day under the direction of your physician depending on your blood sugar. Acarbose belongs to the alpha-glucosidase inhibitors, which can slow down the rate of carbohydrate absorption and reduce postprandial hyperglycemia. It can be used in conjunction with dietary control to treat postprandial blood glucose in patients with type 2 diabetes and abnormal glucose tolerance. The dosage is to be swallowed whole immediately before a meal or chewed with the first few bites of food, and varies from person to person. The recommended starting dose is one tablet (50 mg) three times a day, which is gradually increased to two tablets (0.1 g) three times a day, and in some cases to four tablets (0.2 g) three times a day. The drug should be taken as prescribed by the doctor. Common adverse reactions to acarbose include flatulence, occasional diarrhea, and rarely, abdominal pain. It is not recommended for people who are allergic to acarbose and/or inactive ingredients, people under 18 years of age, patients with chronic gastrointestinal disorders with significant digestive and absorption disorders, severe renal impairment, pregnant women, and nursing mothers. Acarbose should be used under the supervision of a specialist to avoid adverse effects of self-application.
