The exact cause of intracranial aneurysms is not known, so effective prevention cannot be achieved. However, the probability of new aneurysm growth can be reduced by quitting smoking, controlling blood pressure, and lowering blood lipids.
An intracranial aneurysm is an aneurysm formed by an abnormal bulging of the arterial blood vessels inside the skull, which fills with blood. If rupture occurs it can be life-threatening. Since the exact cause of intracranial aneurysms is not known, effective prevention is not possible for the time being.
Components in tobacco such as nicotine can cause vasospasm and other cerebrovascular diseases, hypertension has a high probability of cerebrovascular and cerebral hemorrhage, and increased blood lipids can also lead to aging of blood vessels and thus cause related cerebrovascular diseases. Therefore, smoking cessation, controlling blood pressure and lowering blood lipids may have a certain preventive effect on intracranial aneurysms.
