For people with cardiac discomfort, the change of body position has a certain effect, mainly for people with heart failure. If an episode of heart failure occurs the patient is mainly placed in a semi-recumbent or seated position with both lower limbs drooping to reduce blood return to the heart and reduce the load on the heart, thus improving the symptoms of heart failure. For other heart diseases, except paroxysmal supraventricular tachycardia, vagal stimulation is required. Generally other heart conditions that do not involve heart failure, or other types of arrhythmia, are not particularly affected by usual changes in body position in most cases. If the heart is simply uncomfortable, or if it feels as if it is being pressed when lying on its left side, this is an unscientific way of looking at it. It is not necessary to be overly nervous about positional changes, and the main thing to do in case of cardiac discomfort is to choose a position after the cause of the problem has been clarified.
