What to do when varicose veins bleed

Bleeding varicose veins are one of the more serious complications of varicose veins because the venous pressure is very high and more blood flows than usual. When varicose veins bleed, the limb should be elevated and local compression bandages should be applied, but care should be taken to perform aseptic procedures. Usually the bleeding can be stopped by the above mentioned treatment, but if necessary, the bleeding can also be stopped by hospital stitches and dynamic observation of the hemoglobin and the end of the limb. Patients faced with venous bleeding need first to stop the bleeding and second may require surgical treatment. The surgical procedure can be either traditional or minimally invasive, the traditional procedure being mainly a high ligation and stripping of the saphenous vein. Minimally invasive surgery can be done with laser or with microwave radiofrequency ablation.
