Swallowing a small fishbone is usually fine. However, if the fishbone scratches the mucous membrane of the throat or pierces the esophagus or punctures a blood vessel, it is very dangerous. If the fishbone enters the stomach smoothly after being swallowed, and is softened by digestive juices in the stomach and finally expelled from the body together with the food residues, it will not usually cause harm if there are no uncomfortable symptoms. If the fishbone in the process of swallowing, scratching the mucous membrane of the throat or esophagus; long stay in the throat, and may cause infection formation of pus; embedded in the esophagus, may cause ulcers or even perforation of the possibility; and even penetrate the esophagus into the respiratory tract; or through the esophagus to stab the aorta, then it is very dangerous, and may even be life-threatening. If you swallow a fishbone and experience discomfort, you need to go to an ENT department as soon as possible to determine the location of the fishbone through laryngoscopy or CT examination, and then have the fishbone removed by a professional doctor through laryngoscopy, esophagoscopy or gastroscopy.
