Tic disorder is a common developmental behavior disorder in childhood and adolescence, but the prevalence of tic disorder reported in the literature varies widely, with the lowest reported from 0.02% to the highest reported as 18%, due to factors such as diagnostic criteria, survey population, survey methods, and regional differences. The results of our 2012 survey showed that the prevalence of transient tic disorder was about 2.99% and the prevalence of Tourette’s syndrome was 0.77%; among them, about 1.09% for males and 0.25% for females, and the ratio of males to females was obvious, being more male than female. In China, another report from Changsha City showed that the prevalence of transient tic disorder in children aged 6-15 years was 7.7%. There are also reports of children and adolescents aged 7-16 years with a prevalence of about 0.40%. Some experts and scholars have now reported a recent trend of increasing prevalence of tic disorder.
