Precautions after cataract surgery

Nowadays, cataract removal surgery is becoming more and more popular, but many people as well think that cataract surgery is a simple ophthalmology surgery and it will be fine after the surgery. This has caused many patients to suffer from complications such as incision dehiscence and IOL displacement because they did not protect themselves well and their family members did not take proper care of them after surgery. The care after cataract surgery can be done from the following 6 aspects.

Special attention should be paid to not colliding with the operated eye to avoid complications such as incision cracking, anterior chamber bleeding, increased intraocular pressure and IOL displacement.

2. On the second day after cataract surgery, patients can take care of themselves, but bed rest should still be the main focus. Some patients feel slight pain and tearing in the operated eye, which is normal. Avoid rubbing eyes and excessive use of eyes.

3.After cataract surgery, antibiotic eye drops should be ordered 3~4 times a day. If the incision is closed with sutures, the stitches will be removed 5 days after surgery, and erythromycin or gentamycin ophthalmic ointment can be applied locally before bedtime to prevent infection. Avoid water in the operated eye within one week to avoid infection.

4.The elderly people’s gastrointestinal peristalsis slows down and they are easily constipated, so they need to eat easily digestible food and fresh vegetables and fruits after cataract surgery. In case of constipation, laxative or corkage can be used before and after surgery to prevent bleeding and wound dehiscence due to excessive force during defecation.

5, cheerful mood, correct treatment of various stimuli in daily life; to ensure sleep, prevent colds, cough; cough is strong, to take cough medicine, so as not to affect the normal healing of the wound.

6, regular postoperative review is important. If there is obvious eye pain, redness, colored halos when looking at lights, combined with headache, nausea and other symptoms, you should go to the hospital for examination and treatment in time. If there is no special discomfort, it should also be reviewed once in 1~3 days, 1 week, 2 weeks, 4 weeks and 3 months after surgery; those who have refractive changes should wear suitable glasses.
