Why do children get irritable and throw tantrums?

When an otherwise quiet child becomes irritable and whiny, it is important to check for the presence of irritants. You need to identify the cause of the child’s tantrum and take countermeasures for the different causes to avoid punishing or scaring the child. There are often several reasons: basic needs are not met, such as when the child is hungry, tired, sleepy, or sick and feels uncomfortable; young children are sensitive and feel restless and irritable more easily than the average child; activities are restricted; they want to influence others; they use crying to test or manipulate parents; and they fail and feel frustrated. If it is because of a basic physical need, meet the basic need as soon as reasonably possible and say as little as possible about anything that might cause conflict to annoy the child. For sensitive young children, remove what is causing the child’s irritation as soon as possible without saying anything more. For example, if a child complains that clothes are too tight, too hot, or does not like the style or color of the clothes, a child who cannot yet express himself or herself will simply refuse the clothes with a pushing motion and appear irritable. Restricted by ability and activity: Sometimes children are capable but restricted by adults, especially for children who are active, cared for by the elderly or whose parents are quiet and afraid of danger, are more likely to have conflicts. Check for excessive restrictions on the child’s activities. Sometimes children want to show their “skills” but are “out of their depth. The activities chosen should also show the child’s “ability” and give the child a sense of competence. Testing or manipulating parents: There is usually no valid reason, so parents should stick to the principle of not giving in and cold turkey until the child calms down. If the child cannot give a reason, the child can be allowed to draw or play, and the child’s state can be evaluated through observation of their drawing and play.
