Gout in Chinese medicine belongs to the category of calendar joints, turbid stasis paralysis. Cowslip is generally not a cure for gout.
Cowslip is a traditional Chinese medicine, for the grass plant cowslip root or the whole grass. This product has the effect of clearing away heat and inducing dampness, cooling the blood and detoxifying the toxin. It has therapeutic effects on heatstroke fever, dysuria, dysentery, blood in the stool, carbuncle ulcers (refers to the staphylococcus bacteria infestation of multiple hair follicles and sebaceous glands and the occurrence of infections), swelling and pain, bruises and injuries, and other conditions. Its adverse reactions, contraindications, precautions are not yet clear.
Clinically, it is often used in combination with oxalis, Da Qing Ye, and fresh rehmannia for encephalitis B. Fresh oxalis is decocted with sesame seeds for damp-heat jaundice; it is used in combination with jinshi grass and dog’s tail grass for gonorrhea; and it is used in combination with Angelica sinensis and Wilsonia sinensis for rheumatoid arthritis. This drug is not used in the treatment of gouty conditions.
This drug should be used in a standardized manner under the guidance of a traditional Chinese medicine practitioner.
