A painful swollen knee from a fall may be caused by soft tissue damage around the knee, a meniscus or ligament injury, or a fracture of the knee joint. Treatment includes physical therapy, medication and surgery.
1. Soft tissue injury: after a fall, the soft tissue around the knee may be damaged causing knee pain; patients need to reduce the activities of the knee joint to avoid further aggravation of the injury; secondly, you can apply ice packs on the knee joint and elevate the affected limb to accelerate the edema; after 72 hours, you can change to hot packs and cooperate with medicines such as ibuprofen and loxoprofen to alleviate the symptoms.
2. Meniscus and ligament injury: the wrong point of force of the knee when falling may lead to meniscus or ligament injuries causing the above symptoms, patients need to brake the knee joint, and at the same time for the magnetic examination of the knee joint, the damage is relatively mild, you can use a plaster or brace for immobilization; the damage is more serious patients need to carry out arthroscopic repair or reconstruction.
3. Fracture: Knee fracture may also have the above symptoms. Patients with mild injury can be treated with manipulation and plaster fixation; patients with severe injury need to be treated with incision and internal fixation. At the same time, it can be combined with mannitol, hepatic saponin sodium and other drugs to reduce swelling.
If the patient’s symptoms are serious, or the symptoms do not improve, the patient should go to the hospital in time for treatment. All of the above medications should be used under the guidance of a doctor, avoid self-medication.
