Weak positivity of alpha-fetoprotein can be seen in pathological causes and physiological causes, the former is seen in hepatitis, liver cancer and other diseases, the latter is seen in pregnant women.
1. Pathologic causes:
(1) Viral hepatitis: viral hepatitis can lead to high quantitative alpha-fetoprotein, which can be treated with antiviral and hepatoprotective drugs such as entecavir.
(2) Cirrhosis: weak positive alpha-fetoprotein can also be seen in cirrhosis, and such cases can be treated with enzyme lowering, liver preservation and yellowing reduction.
(3) Hepatocellular carcinoma: weak positive alpha-fetoprotein can also be seen in various malignant tumors such as hepatocellular carcinoma, which can be treated by surgery, radiotherapy, chemotherapy and other methods.
(2) Physiological reasons: physiologically, alpha-fetoprotein is secreted by newborn naïve liver cells. Fetal liver cells are not fully developed (differentiated) and secrete a large amount of alpha-fetoprotein, which can enter into mother’s blood through the umbilical cord blood, so alpha-fetoprotein of pregnant women in gestation period will be positive. Usually no treatment is needed.
If there is any abnormality in the test indicators, you need to go to the hospital as soon as possible, and the doctor will formulate an individualized diagnosis and treatment plan according to the specific condition, so as to avoid delaying the condition.
