Herbal medicines for treating Meibei Qi (similar to pharyngeal allodynia) include Ling Gui Zhu Gan Tang, Spinning Ochre Tang, Hou Pu, Ginger, Semixia, Glycyrrhiza and Ginseng Tang, and so on.
1. Ling Gui Zhu Gan Tang: It is used for treating cold injury to the spleen and stomach, deficiency of yang in the spleen and stomach, weak transportation and digestion, internalization of water-dampness, loss of harmony in the stomach (obstruction of the stomach’s function of ventilation and descending), and water-qi rising up to the throat which is paralyzed by water-cold and is not phlegm-qi.
2. Cirrhosporin Ochre Soup: used in treating liver depression and stagnation of qi, liver-wood overriding earth, loss of harmonization and descending of the stomach, and qi reversing and rushing upward to the throat.
3. Houpu, Ginger, Semixia, Glycyrrhiza, Ginseng Soup: for the treatment of evidence of loss of tonicity of the spleen (dysfunction of the spleen’s function of transportation and digestion), upward reversal of gastric qi (gastric qi rises instead of descending), stagnation of qi in the mid-epiglottis and obstruction of the pharynx.
