Ocular trauma vision loss as traumatic optic neuropathy?

Not all vision loss after eye trauma is traumatic optic neuropathy. A transient loss of vision may sometimes occur after closed eye trauma and may recover on its own. Traumatic eye injuries that result in damage to the optical conduction system, such as corneal penetrating injuries, lens dislocation, anterior chamber hemorrhage, vitreous hemorrhage, or intraocular foreign bodies, can affect vision. However, it is important to be wary of these injuries in combination with simultaneous optic nerve damage, which requires a comprehensive examination and judgment by a neuro-ophthalmologist.
