How to reposition temporomandibular joint disorders by manipulation

TMJ disorders are functional changes in the TMJ and are not usually treated with manipulation, but can be treated with non-pharmacological as well as pharmacological treatments. TMJ disorders are mainly characterized by pain in the joint area, popping of the joints during biting movements, and dyskinesia of the jaw joints. Non-pharmacological treatments include psychological interventions to relieve mental tension, and changing bad biting habits such as opening the mouth wide and chewing food unilaterally. Physical therapy methods such as massage, hot compresses and acupuncture can also be used. Medication includes oral non-steroidal anti-inflammatory and analgesic drugs to relieve pain such as nimesulide and meloxicam. Oral glucosamine sulfate protects joint cartilage, eliminates inflammation and relieves pain. Oral hormonal drugs such as methylprednisolone and dexamethasone can also be taken if the disease is long and the symptoms are severe. If the symptoms of temporomandibular joint disorders occur, it is recommended that the patient go to the hospital, improve the examination to clarify the cause of the disease, and receive regular treatment. The use of drugs need to follow the doctor’s instructions.
